Eagle Ford Shale Description:

The Eagle Ford Shale, located in several counties in south Texas including Maverick, LaSalle, McMullen, Karnes, Dewitt, Live Oak, Atascosa, Wilson and Gonzales Counties.  Eagle Ford Shale is directly below the Austin Chalk Shale formation.  It also extends north into Colorado County.  Oil has been found in Maverick County and Gas has been developed in LaSalle County as well as most of the counties mentioned above.  The average gross thickness of the shale is 350 feet. While many in the oil and gas industry are familiar with the Barnett Shale few know about a newly discovered natural gas reservoir called the Eagle Ford Shale until perhaps the 2009.
